"I am working as a professional guitarist, teacher, and composer in the Los Angeles area, and honestly.... it’s all because of Dan Land.”
"I can't recommend Dan enough. If you're looking to take your playing to the next level, I would say you should give Dan a try."
"Study with Dan Land! I promise, you won't be disappointed! Hi! My name is Blake Carroll. I'm 36 years old, I've played guitar for 25 years, I have a Bachelor's of Music from Towson University and live in the Washington D.C./Baltimore metro area. Dan and I go way back. There are 3 music teachers that guided, facilitated, and influenced my playing and musicianship more than any of the dozens of teachers I encountered throughout my career. Dan Land is not only 1 of them, he was the first. I had a few teachers before I began studying with Dan, but those commitments were short-lived. I met Dan in my hometown of Greenville, NC while I was in middle school. Dan was a music student at East Carolina University and teaching lessons at the University and at a local music store called Pearson's music. From day one, we hit it off. We loved the same music and shared the same enthusiasm for listening and playing. He was able to mix theory, reading, and improvisation together so well in our lessons. It really made the most of the 1 hour weekly session. Later in high school, I studied with Dan briefly while a member of the high school jazz band. Dan invited me out to the University one night where the student there held a weekly jam session. I was blown away by the talent in that room. I never saw so anyone play like these guys before, but I knew I wanted to play like that too. There I met the other 2 most influential teachers I'll ever have; all credit to Dan. After high school, I attended East Carolina University in as a freshmen and started the year off as an undecided major in the fall of 2001. That fall, I called Dan up and asked him to help me prep for auditions to get into Fletcher School of Music at ECU. I decided it was time to get serious. In order to be accepted as a guitar major, you have to pass a solo classical guitar audition. I knew nothing about classical guitar, but was interested. Dan stepped up. With his background in classical guitar, he taught me for 3 months leading up to my audition. When audition time rolled around I was completely prepared and passed. I became a Music Major that spring, thanks to Dan's help and expertise. I've had so many amazing and wonderful experiences as a musician. I've met and had the pleasure of playing with so many inspiring musicians such as Bob Mintzer, Russell Ferrante, Terrell Stafford, John Faddis, Nicholas Payton, and also had the pleasure of running stage production at one of Ray Charles final concerts. I've had a chance to teach my own stundents and share the things that Dan shared with. These lessons last a lifetime. There is no doubt that I would have never had these experiences in my life if it wasn't for Dan's talents as a teacher, player, and individual. He is one of the most encouraging and positive people I know. Having a teacher like that makes all the difference I honestly can't recommend Dan's teaching abilities highly enough. I encourage anyone looking for a guitar teacher to shoot Dan a message or pick up the phone. I'm super thankful for having him as a mentor in music so early in my life and later as well. He has something to offer to any student at any stage of their playing. Enjoy the journey. Peace."
"Learning guitar with Dan is great! He encourages me, but also reminds me that music is fun."
"Dan changed my life when he taught me to play guitar when I was a kid...He is an inspiration to me and I will never, ever forget him"
"Dan is a truly exceptional teacher. He has helped me develop and finesse my skills as a guitar player."
“I had the privilege of being coached and trained by Dan during a music camp in my high school years. During which, he not only taught me valuable music skills, but he helped me gain the confidence to perform! He was patient yet challenging, and careful to harness every students individual talents in the camp. Now, as an adult, I am one of the main worship leaders at our church, sharing music from the stage almost every weekend. The only reason I got to where I am today is because of dedicated teachers like Dan, taking the time to pour into students to help them reach their full potential!”
“One of the coolest parts of a life in show business is when two guitar players become friends. After playing with Dan Land for a few days, I can honestly say he's one of my favorite guitarists in the city, and he does some truly unique things that I've not seen anyone else do. His use of effects is particularly remarkable, and he has a great collection of custom instruments. I don't write original music, but if I did, and they were my songs, Dan would be the session player I would hire to bring something unique to my record. All the cats need to dig him. I've learned a lot.”
“Dan is an amazing, talented guitarist who is passionate about the axe and how to play it. He was my daughter's guitar lesson teacher for a long while. She learned to play, learned to love the instrument and much of that was due to Dan's motivating style of teaching and ability to help guide my daughter with patience. And, he plays amazing music.”
“I first met Dan when in the late ‘90s when I was in middle school. I had been taking classical guitar lessons since kindergarten and wanted to switch to rock-oriented music. My teacher at the time was the guitar professor at the local university, and when I told him I wanted to switch styles, he suggested I contact one of his other (college) students, Dan Land. From my first lesson with Dan in a local music store, I could tell why. He had a smile on his face and I was put at ease immediately. He was kind and inviting. His demeanor was upbeat. He was energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, patient, and absolutely in love with the craft of playing guitar. He maintained all of the aforementioned week in and week out for the several years he taught me. And when there were times he needed to be stern, he was in a matter-of-fact, direct, non-condescending way. He taught me about musical genres with which I was unfamiliar (jazz and metal come to mind). Although we have not seen each other in person in around 15 years, as I decided to take up singing (though I still pick up the guitar every so often) and life simply lead us down different paths, we have maintained a friendship via social media. I can tell he has not changed a bit. Great guy. Great musician. I give him many, many thanks and would recommend him as a teacher or performer to anyone in a heartbeat.”
